I have a great wife, she lets me use the dishwasher machine to clean motor parts. Here is the lower half of the motor block after one cycle in the dishwasher. The next pictures shows the motor in different angles. As you can see it actually isn’t clean, but now the whole thing has been [...]

The gears and the crankshaft has been lifted out and there is just a couple of small parts to take care of. The first picture shows the cams that hold the bearings for the gears in place. Some tiny pins hold the crankshaft bearings in place.

In these two pictures I will try to show you that someone has been using a too long bolt at some time in this motors life. This first picture is outside and below the motor, it is one of the motor mounts. The white stuff you see inside the cavity is cement that plugs a [...]

Cleaning the bottom half of the motor turned out to be a journey into the poor craftmanship of previous maintenance. I am going to take you all back to 1995 for a short story. A week or so after I bought my motorcycle I had been out driving and was on my way home. Cruising [...]

In the manual there is mentioned a special tool to help split the motor, I soon found myself without the need for that tool. As you can see on this picture the motor is made in a way that makes it possible to slip a nut into a slot, and then use a bolt to [...]

I finally got a 32mm socket from my brother and it was time to remove this thing too. I thought I would have to use some force here too, but to my suprise there was very little resistance in this nut. The inner wheel is off and reveals a trust washer and the bearing for [...]

I’ve finally got the special tool for removing the generator wheel. I had to use so much force on this that I could no longer have the motor on my motorcycle jack, I was afraid it would fall off. I had to move it on to my bench. The generator wheel is off and this [...]

The clutch cover has an oil channel that lubricates the clutch axle. There is a nozzle in this channel, probably to reduce the oil flow because this axle does not need as much lubrication as the rest of the motor. Must remember to put this back in. The oil seal for the clutch axle is [...]

The carbon deposits on the pistons was very lose and easy to remove. I used a brass brush on my stationary drill first, then moved on to my dremel tool, also with a brass brush. I have not used it to clean the sidewalls of the pistons, they will be clean enough after a wash [...]
